September 2013 Go to: “Whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith." I had no idea this verse would come to mean what it does for me today: an expression of what the Lord has done in bringing our first grandchild—named Faith—into the world! Birth is an overcoming process: Faith had to overcome several complications her Mom experienced during pregnancy to be born safely, healthy and whole. Prayers were offered and wonderfully answered so that even though labor had to be induced, her birth was still clearly “of God”-- God’s will, timing, plan and power! Birth is a victory too: the triumph of a mother, our daughter-in-law Candace, who endured the changes and challenges of pregnancy, seeking the Lord in choices that meant giving up her own comfort and preferences for the welfare of the life within her, and persevering through a labor and delivery process that wasn’t quite the time and way expected to bring Faith into our family—quite an exercise of faith! Of course, the same things are true in terms of our spiritual rebirth, as the Holy Spirit through John points out: Best of all, just like a proud parent ( or GRAND-parent) gets to show-off the new arrival to others, so Jesus gets to show Himself through us: we are His and here to let the world see and come to know Him through our lives! Faith: your Gran-pa-pa is so delighted you are finally here, safe, healthy and whole! And I can’t wait for you to get to know Jesus too! That’s what God wants for all His children, everywhere! Grateful to be a part of Jesus’ family, and to see the Lord bringing many more children of all ages and stages, everywhere, to FAITH in Christ—the miracles of birth and rebirth--with and through you, His family at and as PPC! This month's column will deal primarily with women, so guys, we'll try to give you equal time later. (But, you may want to read these too, to see why we are what we are!) Our library has a number of books which deal with a woman's relationship to God and other people from a godly point of view. There are at least 30 worthwhile books with either "woman's" or "women" in their title. Add "girls" for books addressing youth and the number jumps.
