From Me to You:

“Those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength.”
(Isaiah 40:31 NKJV)

Hurry up and….wait!

Good things come to those who…wait!

Wait…until next year! (Rays fans included)!

I really don’t like that word!  And yet, that seems to be exactly what the Lord has been having us do at and as PPC in many ways, for many weeks, months and even years.

I am referring, first of all, to the relatively short wait several of us (Terry Odom and Gene Hammond on the search committee) and our Sonrise Preschool community has had to endure in our search for our new Director.  Praise the Lord!  He heard and answered our requests, and in just a few weeks (but with a lot of prayer and work during those weeks), He brought SHIRLEY McLEOD to us!  Shirley brings a wealth of educational and administrative experience to us, as well as a deep life in Christ and wide love for all people.  Shirley is God’s gift to us and our preschool as we seek to expand our ministry to families and into our community!  I am sure Shirley is:

Next-up on the wait-list:  our dismissal from the PCUSA.  Did you know we have been officially engaged in that process for more than 2 (TWO) years?!  It now appears that we are getting some light at the end of the tunnel:  keep praying earnestly and expectantly that we will finalize a contract for our dismissal in time for it to be approved by Presbytery this Fall!  When it is finished and all related requirements met, I am sure it will have been:

What else are we WAITING for?

I don’t know about you, but I sure can’t WAIT until Jesus comes back!
Will that be soon—this September?  Will it be even in my life time?  God the Father is the only one who knows (Matthew 24:36).  One thing is absolutely for sure, however:

When Jesus returns, it will totally have been:

Grateful to be continuing to work, pray, learn, grow AND WAIT, with you, His saints at and as PPC!  (Waiting on our new name, too:  what will it be?)

In Christ,

Gracious Dismissal Update

Progress is being made in our dismissal process. The negotiations are confidential, so please do not ask our Commission members for information.  When an agreement is agreed to by both commissions, the next steps will include voting to accept the agreement by both the Presbytery of Tampa Bay and by our PPC congregation.  Please continue to pray for the commissions and our process.

Stewardship Ministry

God has given us our time, so we should consider how to steward it well. We read in Psalm 90:12, “So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” Perhaps after that godly reflection, we’ll realize that we should pursue things that are eternal rather than temporary, as we read in Matthew 6:33, ‘But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.’ Let’s consider how we can do that as Christ’s body!

Koinonia Ministry

Scripture commands us to be devoted to one another.
Romans 12:10 states, “Be devoted to one another in love.

“Koinonia’s” primary meaning is “fellowship, sharing in common communion.”  The first occurrence of koinonia is in Acts 2:42.  “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”  Believers in Christ are to come together in love, faith and encouragement.

Watch for inserts in flyers with any events that may be coming up during August. Koinonia Ministry did not meet during June or July.  Our next meeting is scheduled for August 4th at 10:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.

Praise Kids/Youth will meet Sunday evenings (the Fun Day Sundays they do not meet) from 6:00-7:30 pm, gathering in the Fellowship Hall for snacks and fellowship and then go to different classes.   Volunteers are always needed Sunday evenings and if you are interested you can contact Laurie Smith @.

Members of our Koinonia Ministry are: Mac Boyd, Cookie Cottrell, Vicki Danz, Gina Driggers, Ruth Gey, Sandy Moore, Terry Odom, Alma Oline, Shirley Phillips, Laurie Smith and Pat Watts.

“Imagine yourself as a living house.  God comes in to rebuild that house.  At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing.  He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised.  But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense.  What on earth is He up to?  The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of – throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards.  You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage; but He is building a palace.  He intends to come and live in you Himself forever.”  - C.S. Lewis

Many of us are not spring chickens anymore.  The other day someone referred to me as one of the young people in the church and I just turned 66!  Some of you have more experience but God doesn’t care!  He wants to build you and me into a palace. Age doesn’t matter to God. So, let’s let the building begin!

Make eye contact and smile – Compliment people who serve you – Each morning say; “Lord, who do you want me to bless today – Allow God to interrupt your day – Know your neighbors – Perform random Acts of Kindness – Pray, Pray, Pray – Know what you believe and why – Know your own testimony – Grow in your love for God by simply thinking about Him and spending time with Him – Grow your love for others (strangers and friends)  -  Be patient  -  God made us for this!

Children of Thika

Kennedy began his life on the streets of Nairobi, Kenya.  Born around April of 2000 to a street mother, he was abandoned at the age of four and began a rough life on the streets.  In 2008, he left Nairobi with a group of five other street boys and walked to Thika - a 29-mile walk.  He remembered that it took several days, but he wanted to start a new life.  Once he was in Thika, he helped the younger street kids, even fighting to protect them.  As John, our mission director, worked with the street children, he noticed how kind Kennedy was to the other children and led him to accept Jesus Christ as his Savior.

When John told me about Kennedy coming to know Jesus, God made it clear that Kennedy should join our mission family.  In August of 2014, Kennedy became one of us.

Kennedy's dream is to be a doctor.

On God

God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world.

From The Problem of Pain

On the present moment

Never, in peace or war, commit your virtue or your happiness to the future. Happy work is best done by the man who takes his long-term plans somewhat lightly and works from moment to moment “as to the Lord.” It is only our daily bread that we are encouraged to ask for. The present is the only time in which any duty can be done or any grace received.

From The Weight of Glory

On holiness

If He does not support us, not one of us is safe from some gross sin. On the other hand, no possible degree of holiness or heroism which has ever been recorded of the greatest saints is beyond what He Is determined to produce in every one of us in the end. The job will not be completed in this life: but He means to get us as far as possible before death.

From Mere Christianity

No amount of falls will really undo us if we keep picking our- selves up each time. We shall of course be very muddy and tattered children by the time we reach home. But the bathrooms are all ready, the towels put out, & the clean clothes are in the airing cupboard. The only fatal thing is to lose one’s temper and give it up. It is when we notice the dirt that God is most present in us; it is the very sign of His presence. From The Collected Letters of C.S. Lewis, Volume II

Women of The Church

Communion at the Springs – Monday, August 1st at 10:00 a.m.

Our circle meetings and our committee meetings are not held during June, July and August.  I would like to say that even though we do not meet officially during this time that we are always there for all the women of the church as you are all part of WOC.  Check out our bulletin board for any updates on the missions we serve or anything of importance to our women.

Just a reminder of things not to do but how to be: Be prayerful, Be trustful, Be obedient, Be forgiving, Be faithful and finally Be a follower of Jesus.  Remember this thought – what’s important is not what is ahead of us but Who is ahead of us.

“Serve one another in love” (Gal. 5:13) and

“Encourage one another”

(I Thess. 5:11; Heb. 3:13)
