From Me to You:

From Me to You:

“We are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,
from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part,
causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.”

(Ephesians 4:15-16)

Ephesians 4:15-16 is a marvelous example of the precision and intentionality of God’s Word (see Isaiah 55:11).  God’s design for us as His church is profoundly straightforward:
1. Grow up in Christ (God’s goal for us and purpose for us being together), by
2. Being fitted and held together as His “whole” Body—God the Holy Spirit assembles us in  and as the Body as He desires (1 Cor. 12:18), which happens as
3. Each one “works properly”—participates and offers their gifts to Christ and in harmony with one another;
4. The result is a Body which grows in every direction, inside and out, and demonstrates to the world, God’s love in Christ (John 13:35).

Each member is important to the health, growth and faithfulness of Christ’s Body:  “God assembled the body just as He desired” (1 Cor. 12:18).  There are no superfluous or second-class parts! Each member is also responsible for helping build-up all the others (1 Cor. 12:25).  The more we are connected to Christ, and in Christ to one another, the more we will grow, inwardly, together and outwardly.  That’s God’s basic design.

My point in sharing this bit of a study is thisPPC needs you, now more than ever!

To grow, we need every person in place and doing his/her part.

You are needed to

· volunteer in our 2016 VBS (see Terry Odom asap),
· help maintain our facilities and grounds (see Tom Smith IV),
· serve in our Food Distribution Ministry (see Larry and Barb Hendry),
· visit the shut-ins and sick (see your deacon),
· provide a meal (again, see your deacon),
· teach a Sunday School class (see Pat Mancini)
· coordinate a fellowship meal (see Pat Watts or Ruth Gey),
· sing or play an instrument in worship (see Carol Pilkington),
OR if there’s a ministry you can do that’s not one of these, see or call me (Carl)!

Your deacons, elders and I are available to help you connect to Christ, find your place and do your part as His Church, to help us all be all that the Lord Jesus Christ wants us to be.  Let us know how we can help you be more vitally involved in and as this part of Jesus’ Body known as PPC (soon to get a new name!).  That’s what we’re here for.

In Christ,

Stewardship Ministry

I’d like to thank everyone who came to our Weeding Day and Work Day. Your work glorified God and thanked Him for the many gifts He has given us, and encouraged our brothers and sisters in Christ. A Bible verse I have come to appreciate lately is Hebrews 6:10, “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” Based on this verse, we can know that God will not forget anything that You do for Him and His people. Praise the Lord for forgetting our evil deeds based on the death and resurrection of Jesus, and giving us these good deeds to do! Let’s consider how we may continue to wisely use and take care of the things He has given us for His glory.

All the church would welcome your presence.

Thomas Smith IV
Stewardship Ministry Chair

Koinonia Ministry

Scripture commands us to be devoted to one another. Romans 12:10 states, “Be devoted to one another in love.  Honor one another above yourselves”. NIV

“Koinonia’s” primary meaning is “fellowship, sharing in common communion”.  The first occurrence of koinonia is in Acts 2:42.  “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer”.  Believers in Christ are to come together in love, faith and encouragement.

Koinonia Ministry met March 3, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall.  Parents Night Out was cancelled for Saturday, March 6th and April 2nd. We will plan on having it the first Saturday of every month from 6-9pm.  The next Parents Night Out is scheduled for May 7th.

Sunday Funday – April 17, 2016 the Youth will be Sponsoring a Spaghetti Dinner – look for more information elsewhere in this newsletter.

Praise Kids/Youth will meet Sunday evenings (the Fun Day Sundays they do not meet) from 6:00-7:30 pm, gathering in the Fellowship Hall for snacks and fellowship and then go to different classes.   Volunteers are always needed Sunday evenings and if you are interested you can contact Laurie Smith @.

Members of our Koinonia Ministry are: Cookie Cottrell, Vicki Danz, Gina Driggers, Ruth Gey, Zinet Kalis, Sandy Moore, Terry Odom, Alma Oline, Shirley Phillips, Laurie Smith, Dave Taylor and Pat Watts.

I’m sure you remember our theme on missions Sunday was “Everyone Involved, Everywhere there’s Need, Every way Possible”. As we said in our skit, this theme is grounded in Scripture’s emphasis upon every believer using their unique gifts to advance the Gospel everywhere there is need by all possible means. This is Bible-based missions diversification for the sake of the Gospel. If you are a member of this church, you share our common commitment: This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. – John 15:8

Each one of us has a unique role to play in God’s plan to draw people from all nations into his family. There is no mission’s box. There isn’t one set method or way to reach the world with the Gospel. There are no parameters to innovation in missions but four missions initiatives shape and focus our missions efforts.  They are; (1) We invest in training national leaders, (2) We send and support career missionaries, (3) We send and provide prayer and support for short term missionaries (4) We reach out to immigrants, refugees, international students and all who don’t know Jesus personally – right here from St. Petersburg

There are unlimited ways to specifically engage in these initiatives and there are many other initiatives also worth our pursuit. In fact, our desire is to cause all kinds of mission involvement by Pasadena people. We want to prepare you for missions and we will provide many mission opportunities, but we also want you pursue the unique opportunities God is giving you through work or with your ethnic neighbors, or through your own contacts and interests.

We pray that you will remember to pray and support our missionary partners but we pray you have thought about some of the things you could do, to introduce others to Christ and make disciples. You have a unique contribution by using the unique gifts, skills, experience and resources that God has given you to advance the Gospel- in some way – around the world. If you don’t think you have been given spiritual gifts just ask a fellow believer you trust what they think your gifts are.  Then prepare to be surprised.

Romans 12:4-8 tells us; “For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.”

Where in the World is Kevin Odom?

As of the end of March, Kevin has completed three months and three countries with Adventures in Missions (AIM). God has allowed Kevin and his team to become truly dependent on Him and search deep within themselves to be the people of God that God called each of them to be. They have ministered to the poor and spread God’s Love and Word in South Africa, Botswana and Madagascar. Next stop, Southeast Asia.

Sonrise ECLC

March was a wonderful month at the preschool ministry. We learned about the different types of farm animals that God created.  The children enjoyed a visit from the animal farm, Noah’s Ark.  Farmer Ben explained to the children that God wants us to treat the animals kindly. The children then had the opportunity to see, touch and groom them!

The children learned how Jesus traveled with His friends and spread the Good News to everyone, and how we too can tell our families and friends about Jesus.  They learned about the many miracles He worked while He taught people how they should live. We celebrated Palm Sunday in the Sanctuary. The children waved palm branches and sang “Holy, Holy, Holy Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord” as a child who represented Jesus walked down the road to Jerusalem. Next we sang a joyful praise song “He is K-I-N-G Lord of Lord and King of Kings!” The children were very excited to welcome Jesus and praise Him. We also talked about the wonderful miracle of Easter.

Our Family Night Auction and Raffle was a tremendous success. As always the children did a wonderful job singing songs about God’s love and playing their rhythm instruments. Thank you all for your support of this very special ministry that reaches out to so many families in the community.   May your lives be blessed with the love of God and all of the gifts and beauty that He gives to us each and every day in this beautiful world that He has created! Wishing you and your loved ones a very blessed Easter Celebration. – Laura Woodard

***We are currently enrolling for the 2016-2017 school year. Please invite any families that may be interested in attending to contact me for a tour of the school.  There are brochures available for distribution in the preschool office.

Library News

Spending a lot of time with his wife and three children was very important to Gary Smalley, a famous writer and speaker. “[He] spent a lot of time with us,” Greg Smalley (one of his sons) said. “I think that’s why we all have gone into ministry, is because we weren’t turned off to ministry, turned off to the church, turned off to God. He prioritized us.”

This is a high tribute and was quoted from the obituary for Smalley in WORLD magazine He died in March at the age of 75, according to the magazine.

The article continues, "The marriage champion, who for years was a fixture of Focus on the Family, and appeared on Oprah, NBC’s Today Show, and Fox and Friends, leaves a legacy of more than 60 best-sellers full of biblical advice on relationships....For nearly 50 years, Smalley’s seminars, books, and other materials helped repair relationships by pointing people to godly principles of love and forgiveness. His books have sold more than 5 million copies, and his Hidden Keys to Loving Relationships videos have sold more than 9 million sets...."

The PPC library has these (call numbers in parenthesis): Joy That Lasts (242); The Language of Love (248.4); The Gift of the Blessing (249) The Hidden Value of a Man (305.32); For Better or for Best Understanding Your Husband (306.8); and Hidden Keys of a Loving Lasting Marriage (645.78).

Women of The Church

Communion at the Springs – Monday, April 4th at 9:45 a.m.

Rachel Circle – Monday, April 11th at 7:00 p.m. at the home of

Ann Carney.

Sarah Circle – Tuesday, April 12th at 12:00 p.m. at the home of

Aristeia Sowa.

As you notice, we have one day circle and one evening circle. This is not like a club – all women of Pasadena Presbyterian Church are invited to come to either of the circle meetings. We have bible study, fellowship and light refreshments. We do have a budget for each calendar year and your offerings help us to contribute to the missions that we support, local and foreign. If you want more details regarding Women of the Church, please contact Pat Watts (727-302-0888).

Just a reminder of things not to do but how to be: Be prayerful, Be trustful, Be obedient, Be forgiving, Be faithful and finally Be a follower of Jesus.  Remember this thought – what’s important about any day is not what is ahead of us but Who is ahead of us.

“Serve one another in love” (Gal. 5:13) and “Encourage one another”

(I Thess. 5:11; Heb. 3:13)
